Strange Clergy Assignments

I saw a couple of odd clergy assignments listed in this week's Catholic Virginian (May 3, 2010).

1. The parochial vicar of St. John, Dinwiddie named sacramental minister at St. Mary of the Annunciation, Ladysmith.

2. The pastor of Church of the Vietnamese Martyrs, Richmond named parochial vicar of St. John's, Dinwiddie.

To the questioning mind, one might say:

Hmmmm...

But then, there are probably logical reasons for these assignments.... Just caught my eye...

I don't understand. What is the point of moving pastors? To make parishes less traditional or more traditional? After all, at the end of the day, it all boils down to liturgy, tabernacles and music. Nothing is more divisive and causes more anger than liturgy.

Moving pastors: I think the plan is that a pastor is appointed for a six year term. Then he has the option of staying another six years at that parish.

Of course there are probably exceptions...
